Love letter to Singapore

Some places grow on you. Others steal your heart the moment you arrive.
Singapore was definitely the second kind.
My husband Lorenzo and I only stayed five days, but somehow, that was enough to leave a strong imprint on us both. It’s not often you find a city that feels so effortless, so harmonious, and livable (despite the hot and humid tempteratures).
We didn’t rush, but still manager to see and do a lot. We strolled through clean streets lined with palm trees and bougainvillaea, took shelter under covered walkways when the tropical rain surprised us (as it does), and kept pausing to say, “This place just works, doesn’t it?”
A city of natural beauty
What struck me the most was how green it all was. Not just a few parks here and there, but an intentional presence of nature that reminds us we are still in a jungle even when surrounded by skyscrapers.
The magic of everyday life
Singapore felt both alive, hectic and relaxed at the same. People seem unbothered, kind, content in their own rhythm. It’s a place where things run smoothly, but without the stress you often feel in big cities. I never felt rushed, or unsafe, or overstimulated.
Blends of cultures and outstanding food
From Little India to Chinatown, Kampong Glam to the Marina Bay, every neighbourhood felt like a different story, told in colour and scent and sound.
And, as a big foodie, I cannot skip on how amazing the food was!
Hawker centres became our daily ritual. Rows and rows of stalls, each with its own delicious story. We tried whatever caught our eye (or nose), and we were never disappointed.
A street that inspired a painting
There was one street in Chinatown that really stayed with me.
Rows of pastel buildings, little details in every window frame, a festive buzz in the air... It felt like stepping into a painting.
That street inspired my Singapore Streets travel illustration, a small tribute to a city that surprised me in the best way. I painted it as a way to hold onto that feeling a little longer…
Until next time, Singapore
We’ll be back, hopefully for longer than 5 days this time! But something tells me this won’t be the last love letter I write to you.
